Foundation records, 1953-2007.

Grant files and other records of a St. Paul-based nonprofit foundation, incorporated in 1953 with an endowment from 3M executive Archibald G. Bush, that provides grants to charitable, scientific, literary, musical, educational, and arts organizations located primarily in Minnesota and the Upper Midwest. The records provide a wealth of information about the grantee organizations' programs and finances. The collection consists primarily of approved grant files, which are restricted for fifty years from the date of their creation. These files typically include the grantee organizations' annual reports, programmatic and financial information, correspondence and memoranda, and staff and consultants' reports. There are also articles of incorporation (1953), minutes and board agenda files, correspondence, Grant Committee memoranda, mailings to the board, Bush Leadership Fellows Program files, Investment Committee files, miscellaneous subject files, and some legal records relating to a lawsuit over control of the foundation after the death of Archibald Bush.
